Farewell to Karen Stornelli and Harold Brenier!
On October 19, 2024, the ATD Fourth World community gathered in Gallup to celebrate and bid farewell to Karen Stornelli and Harold Brenier, two former ATD Fourth World Volunteer Corps members who founded ATD New Mexico 13 years ago. Over the years, they collaborated with team members, activists, partners, children and families, building a foundation of trust and solidarity in the fight against poverty and social exclusion. Friends, family and colleagues gathered to share stories of Karen and Harold's impact. The farewell party was both joyful and emotional, filled with heartfelt tributes, laughter and moments of reflection.
ATD Lending Library Coming to Gamerco Story Garden
With winter approaching and kids bundling up inside, ATD New Mexico is excited to bring its own Lending Library to Gamerco Story Garden. We want to bring books for kids of all ages that can encourage their love of reading. We had support from a children's librarian to guide us in making the program as enriching as possible. The collection of library books may be small now, but we hope they can be the seeds we plant to grow a stronger garden of stories. Donations of new children's books are welcome!
Gallup Flea Market Story Garden - A Learning and Teaching Space for All!
We are implementing a new phase of Story Garden at the Gallup Flea Market that has existed for 12 years in the same space. In July 2024, ATD Fourth World USA received an Early Learning Community Grant through Save the Children New Mexico in order to make much needed improvements and renovations.
Previously, the uneven floor made the space difficult to access for the elders and younger children, and did not allow for more benches to be added. With this grant we were able to invest in a leveling of the ground, an additional bench and table, and new books and puzzles. Now, everyone is more comfortable and we have more freedom to explore layout options to play and connect with our friends.
